Name: Really explains itself
Age: Again, it explains itself
Species: Try not to make it some kind of immortal creature like a god or goddess unless you plan to do something interesting with it, maybe having them wanting to die, but they just can't, adding tragedy to the character, making them at least a tiny bit compelling. What I'm talking about in the "try not to make it an immortal creature" thing is really the worst case scenario, having them be overpowered and a Mary Sue.
Personality: Okay, first things first, the words "hot, perfect, sexy/smexy, popular, and all-powerful" are banned! Those have a lot of stigma to it, and if you just add nothing but good qualities to them, you need to balance it out. For example, say you have a very sweet, passive character, have them be very naive or childish, maybe easily manipulated, over-protective and now it's balanced.
Powers: Okay, this is really easy, base the powers of a trait or traits, or maybe have it be ironic (Ex: A calm character having fire as there main power or a aggressive character having water powers). But, make sure it's not too many powers, usually, I'll have it be 4 powers or less, nothing above.
Friends: Again, really easy, but try not to have TOO many friends, have it be about the same as how many enemies they have.
Crush/Bf/Gf/Fiance/Wife/Husband: Again, keep the number small, unless they're a player or something and that ties into there personality, but keep it at the most 3 for significant others and it really doesn't matter how many crushes they have, as long as it ties into the character.
Enemies: About the same as friends, but try to have more enemies.
But, thats just the basics. I'll see you guys next time with the more advanced tips.
